Olympics 2008, Beijing
Olympic Games, 2008 has started in Beijing, China. Beijing was selected as the host for 2008 Olympics on July 13, 2001, during the 112th International Olympic Committee section in Moscow, overcoming the bids by Toronto, Paris, Istanbul, and Osaka. The Olympic games is supposed to continue until 24th of August. About 10,500 athletes are expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sporting events. The official logo of 2008 Olympic games is “Dancing Beijing,”. Representing both a color of the Olympic rings and a symbol of Chinese culture, the mascots of Beijing 2008 are the five Fuwa. The Olympic slogan, One World, One Dream, calls upon the world to unite with the olympic games and make a world a small village.
As per chineese government this event being held in beijing is their dream of the millenium. The Chinese government has invested heavily in introducing new facilities and transportation systems for olympic delegates and the partcipants. A total of 37 venues has been setup to host the events including 12 newly constructed venues. China has made arrangement to make this olympic games the best in the history.
There was a specialty for the time at which this years Olympics has started. The Olympic games has been inaugurated at 08 PM, on 08th of 08 month and in the year of ‘08. This is a unique day which is expected to recur only after 100 years. The number 8 is highly associated with prosperity and confidence in Chinese culture. I wish Beijing for all the success for Olympic 2008 games.
One of my friend asked me why Olympics is being held. He as curious about why so much money is being spend every 4 year after to conduct Olympics. I think that the main reason to conduct Olympics is to create unity and brotherhood among the people around the world. When Olympics takes place people from around the world will be reaching at one place which make it the unique celebration and people from around the world will be closely watching the Olympics games and especially their country’s representatives. I think it will also help in the development of the place where the Olympics is being held because adequate infrastructure has to be developed to conduct this world game. Otherwise Olympics bring more prosperity and development to a country where it is being hosted. For another 10 to 15 days there is only one world and there is only one dream.
