Blood donation has got mass awareness among people even the youth especially teenagers show willingness.But organ donation is not having not much awareness among the people. It is a fact that one person can live with a single kidney and that one donated kidney can save a persons life.
Many of the people are concerned about their life after death concerned with organ donation. Many people believe that they have a life after death and if they donate their organs in this life then they will be deprived of those organs in their rebirth or in life after resurrection.
People should make their family members aware that you want to donate your organs after death. The best time to tell this to other family members is during casual talks.
Another important factor is that a human body will start decomposing or decay by itselfafter 48 hours. Organs has to taken from a dead body at the earliest to get it at its best.
Media, whether it is newspaper, televisions, radio or movies has a prominent role to play to create awareness among the people. But currently media is not taking that initiative.
Loudspeaker,a Malayalam movie directed by Jayaraj portrays the life of a person who donated his kidney. Before and after that movies there were no such movies which handled theme of organ donation
Organ donation is the need of the time not only eyes can be donated but also other organs like lungs, pancreas, 2 kidneys, heart , liver can also be donated. When a person donates his organs it will help more than 5 other people to regain their life.
With the number of people who are in need of organs and it high value has led to the emergence of organ rackets especially kidney rackets. These kidney / organ trading racket has taken it as a business and generating lot of money. There are strict laws in india for curbing the illegal trading of organs. Illegal organ traders take advantage of the loop holes in these laws to trade organs
With regard to kidney donation unlike other organ donation one kidney can be donated by a person during his / hers life time itself and one kidney is enough to life span of 80 to 100 years. Usually there will be no critical health problems for the kidney donors after the donation but in some cases some donors had got blood pressure problems after donating a single kidney
One matter of concern is that after donating one kidney, if the donor gets affected with kidney stone or other kidney problems for the remaining kidney then the donated person’s health will be critical. With regard to kidney donation before donating the kidney a doctor has to certify the donor have got good health conditions.
Kidney is usually removed from a donor using laproscopic surgery or by normal surgery. It is recommended the person who has donated the kidney have to restrict himself from manual labour for at least 3 months after donation
It is the awareness which has to be created by media and celebrities plays a very important role in encouraging people to donate their organs for saving other lives.
